About Me: Dave Olsen aka Big Dave
Our Viking head logo is a character taken of myself and my proud and strong Danish ancestry. The Battle helmet represents life, my life as it has not always been a walk in the park. I am still here I am still fighting and plugging forward taking on new and amazing things everyday. The helmet also represents something I can proudly pass along to my kids as they get older and get into life and find their ways.
N L P Contracting is a company born out of many years of me listening , doing and learning everything I can about construction , building and fabricating (Still listening and learning everyday). I went to University, I learned from books and some very impressive well educated teachers, but my passion has always been working with my hands. I am of Danish decent and as far back as I can remember Lego has been a HUGE part of this interest and passion for building and creating. The first opportunity I got after university I got into a trade. Steel heavy plate and press fabrication and repair, to structural steel fabrication and erecting. I spent time as a general contractor doing concrete foundations to interior building finishes. I’ve been doing decks, fences and smaller house renovations on the side as well for years.
At 47 years young, my kids are well on their way as young adults so I figured it was time to turn years of passion, knowledge and know-how into my own company I can build now for my kids and their kids. NLP Contracting has been a dream for many years, like the projects I go to look at, quote on and work on for my clients. Dream projects in and around their families’ homes. I bring the same passion, quality and care to their projects as I do to projects around my personal home.
What is NLP?
The acronym N L P is:
N for Nicole my beautiful and amazing wife and life partner.
L and P are for my son Logan and my daughter Paige the two proudest builds of my life!
Without the three of them this would not be possible….
My Roots
I've been involved with building and constructing from an early age helping my grandpa throughout the 1980's. After University in the late 90's I went into the steel fabrication side of construction. I've work in all aspects of construction for small and large companies - from general labourer all the way up to lead hand. Construction entails the ability to work with various materials, troubleshoot every scenario and think on your feet - my years in the trades has done just that!
I have extensive knowledge and experience in Steel, Wood, Concrete and all the building materials in between.
My Passion for Construction
When an idea comes to mind, or we can put a dream onto paper, I can, and will make that vision come to life!
I love to build , and I love the satisfaction of having a clients dream come true for them to enjoy for years!!

There's money to be made, but theres an even greater sense of pride in making a clients dream come true.
WE ALL HAVE champagne and caviar dreams, except 99% of us live on mac and cheese and tuna fish instead. That doesn't mean we still can't have nice things!!
What Building Materials Do I Work With?
I have extensive knowledge and experience in Steel, Wood, Polyurothane, Plastics, Piping, Flooring, Drywall and Glass- every construction material you can think of!
Custom and Pre-Fabbed
I can build and design fully custom work, or work with pre-fabbed installations. Most jobs will include a combination of both - which allows customers some flexibility when it comes to overall cost.
How Do We Conduct Business?
I work with my customers to come up with payment options that work best for them.
Time & Material (T&M): this is the easiest way and helps keep costs down for clients. Clients buy materials and I do the work as planned. This way you know exactly what you're getting and not paying any markup. I can pick up materials for an additional charge, but you're still spending your time collecting and purchasing the items.
My Time: my current billable rate is $65+HST.
Free Quotes and Invoices: Every job is provided with a free quote. If we proceed forward together, our quote is then signed and becomes a contract. Invoices will be provided for jobs lasting longer periods of time where payments are made over a period of time.
Is NLP Contracting Bonded and Insured?
NLP Contracting has $5 million liability insurance. This insurance covers any personal or property damage.
What Services do You Offer?
If permitting and design is required, we connect you with a P.Eng (professional engineer). Additional fees are associated.
We can work off Designs/Drawings/Schematics of any sort and build to code.
New Beginnings
After many years in the field, and experience working in all aspects of contracting, I've made the exciting decision to embark on a new, exciting journey. NLP Contracting was born March 2023.
